Our FAQs
Find clear answers to common questions about our membership, upcoming events, and professional eligibility
What is SWAN and what does the Abuja Chapter do?
A: The Society of Women Accountants in Nigeria (SWAN) is a national body dedicated to serving and empowering female members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). The Abuja Chapter actively coordinates local networking, continuing professional development (CPD), mentorship programs, and community outreach initiatives across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Who is eligible to become a member of SWAN Abuja?
A: Every female member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is automatically considered a member of SWAN.
Can non-accountants or students attend SWAN Abuja events?
A: Yes! While our core focus is supporting female chartered accountants, many of our public lectures, career seminars, and community development events are open to student accountants, corporate partners, and the general public. Non-members can easily register for these events through our website’s Events portal using the non-member pricing tier.
How does the tiered event pricing work?
A:Â To claim the discounted “Member Rate” for any paid SWAN Abuja event, you must log into your active member account on our website before checking out. If you are logged in, the event ticket module will automatically apply the member rate. Visitors who are not logged in or do not possess an active membership profile will see and pay the “Non-Member Rate.”
What are the key benefits of being an active SWAN Abuja member?
A:Â Active members enjoy a robust suite of professional and personal advantages, including:
- Tiered Event Pricing:Â Deep discounts or free entry to local chapter seminars, workshops, and webinars.
Leadership Opportunities:Â Eligibility to join specialized committees and ascend into executive positions within the chapter.
Exclusive Networking & Mentorship:Â Direct connection to senior female professionals, executive directors, and decision-makers across the public and private sectors in Abuja.
CPD Credits: Broad access to ICAN-recognized Continuing Professional Development programs.
Do SWAN Abuja events count toward my ICAN CPD hours?
A: Yes. Our formal technical sessions, workshops, and annual seminars are designed to maintain the high standards of efficiency required by the profession and regularly qualify for ICAN Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits. Ensure you register using your official ICAN details so your attendance can be tracked.
What payment methods are accepted for events and annual subscriptions?
A: Our portal is integrated with a secure local payment gateway (Paystack/Flutterwave). You can securely complete your transactions instantly via Debit Card, Direct Bank Transfer, or USSD. Once payment is successful, your event ticket or subscription confirmation will be instantly generated and emailed to you.
Can I pay for an event at the venue?
A: To help us plan effectively and ensure proper catering and materials, all registrations and payments must be completed online through our website prior to the event deadline. Physical cash collections are highly discouraged at the venue for security and administrative efficiency.Â
